Chris Carpenter has come all the way back to his Cy Young form of 2005 and world-championship status of 2006, but he can’t do much without support.
Carpenter allowed hits (four) in only one of his seven innings Thursday against the Mets and threw only 18 balls out of 82 pitches. But in losing his second game against five victories, Carpenter received only two runs of support. In his other loss at Cleveland, the Cardinals didn’t score for him, and they’ve tallied just 36 runs in his 10 starts overall.
